Research, teaching and practical neurosurgical innovation
Dr Nabeel Choudhary is involved in clinical research, neurosurgical education and practical innovation aimed at improving patient care in resource-constrained settings. His published and collaborative work spans neurotrauma, intraoperative imaging, operating-theatre utilisation, cranial reconstruction, spine surgery and neurocritical care.
Current research themes
- Intracranial pressure, pulse amplitude and compensatory reserve in severe traumatic brain injury
- Resting-state functional MRI and tract-based planning for brain tumours
- Patient-specific and affordable 3D technologies for neurosurgical reconstruction
- Endoscopic approaches for cranial, pituitary and CSF-leak surgery
- Spinal infection, implant preservation and local irrigation strategies
- Surgical outcomes and cost-conscious treatment options in lower-middle-income settings
Selected published and collaborative work
- Patient-specific low-cost 3D-printed PMMA cranioplasty implants
- Open-source CAD, PLA printing and silicone-rubber moulds for cranioplasty
- Usefulness of intraoperative CT in cranial and spinal surgery
- Prospective elective neurosurgical theatre-utilisation audit
- Global Neurotrauma Outcomes Study participation
